Water Conservation The refineries' aggregate water usage was the same (0.1% increase) when compared with 2004. The water usage on a normalized basis (gallons per barrel of crude throughput) decreased 1.1% compared to 2004.
Water usage at the chemical plants in 2005 increased 13.3% on an aggregate basis and increased 14.8% on a normalized basis when compared with 2004. In both cases the increase is due primarily to an anomaly whereby heavy rainfalls at the Haverhill Plant in 2004 resulted in the 2004 water usage number being artificially low.
