Wastewater exceedances are measured by the number of times a Sunoco facility exceeds the limits contained in National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits or the pre-treatment standards for discharges to public treatment facilities (POTWs).

Sunoco experienced its best-ever performance in the area of wastewater permit exceedances with a total of 17. The number of exceedances decreased 54.1% when compared with 2004 and was 34.6% better than the previous best performance, which occurred in 2002. Seven facilities experienced 100% improvement over 2004 performance, and one had a 90% improvement.

The 2006 goal represents a 23.5% improvement over 2005.
