Upgrading HES Data Management
Sunoco successfully completed upgrading its SIRIS (Sunoco Incident Reporting and Investigation System) program during 2008. SIRIS has been used to track and report incidents and events affecting health, safety, environment, and operations integrity. The upgrade, known as SIRIS II, provides extensive enhancements, including the ability to document full-scale investigations of events, facilitate audits and incorporate corrective and preventative actions at any point in the system to ensure resolution of any gaps and mitigate risks.

SIRIS II was implemented across the Refining, Chemicals, Professional Services and Retail Marketing business units. The business units used the opportunity to standardize and enhance processes across the company while configuring the system to meet their workflow needs. The Refining organization found this advantageous regarding its “Barriers to Safety” audits. These audits are conducted daily by supervisions who review and improve the execution of safety programs in the fields. Originally documented on paper, the audits are now entered into SIRIS II, providing audit data consistency and allowing trending and identifying leading indicators for safety performance.

Additionally, the Marketing organization streamlined incident reporting from more than 500 convenience stores.

SIRIS II’s reporting features are perhaps its most powerful, enabling the organization the ability to perform real-time analysis and trending of data within a single location, across multiple locations, across multiple business units, or the company. This real-time analysis and trending assists the organization in a proactive approach to the management and oversight of health, environment and safety.
