U.S. Customs Security Compliance Audit

Sunoco is a the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency. Importers, like Sunoco, agree to implement 29 minimum security standards designed by CBP to protect a company's international supply chains. Compliance with these standards is documented in a "Supply Chain Security Profile" and housed on a secure web portal that links CBP with private industry. C-TPAT participants receive streamlined inspections of vehicles (vessel, rail and truck) and priority in the resumption of port operations following any disruption.

Sunoco received its first CBP validation, which is conducted by U. S. Customs agents every three years, in the summer of 2007. The agents met with Sunoco’s Corporate Security staff at the Suncor Refinery (a third-party refinery in Sarnia, Canada) as shipments of some Sunoco materials originate from there. A month later the agents visited the Marcus Hook Refinery. Upon completion of the audit, Sunoco was designated as a validated Tier II C-TPAT member.
