Training New Operators and Maintenance Personnel
The Toledo Refinery held two training classes in the fall of 2005 for newly hired maintenance personnel and unit operators. The maintenance personnel attended a two-week orientation prior to receiving assignments.

The 10 new unit operators began a five week basic training class. The five weeks consist of a one week orientation and then four weeks of equipment training. Each apprentice must pass a written test before moving on to 30 days of hands-on training.

The new maintenance employees includes six boilermakers, three machinists, and one welder.

Following the hands-on training, the apprentices begin several weeks of training on procedures pertaining to start-up and shutdown operations, emergency activities, permit writing, and gas testing among others. Once this is completed they are assigned to a specific plant in the refinery where they learn various jobs over the next three years.

The ten new unit operators get five weeks of classroom training before receiving additional handson training.
