Supply Chain Product Stewardship Contract Service Providers (CSP) are third-party companies, including storage terminals, distributors, pipelines, etc., located throughout the United States that are a part of Sunoco’s supply chain. Over the past few years, Sunoco has been performing on-site assessments at CSP facilities to review the facility and its HES capabilities and control systems.
In 2006, Sunoco established baselines for over 130 carriers and terminals. These facilities have been put on a schedule based on their assessment score. Fifty-four locations were visited during 2008. No locations received an “Unacceptable” rating, but should that occur that location would be removed from use by Sunoco.
Additionally, in 2008 five customer on-site visits were performed. These are informal visits where assessment / product stewardship personnel observe whether the customer is receiving, storing, handling and using the product properly. The visits open a dialogue and spread product stewardship awareness. These particular visits also included discussions regarding product stewardship and the European regulation known as REACH.
