Spills—2008

The number of Class 1 and 2* spills, decreased by 15.4%. Aggressive programs to identify and repair or replace aging infrastructure and to improve operational excellence have helped achieve the previous decrease. These efforts will be continued and utilized to return performance to a downward trend.

The volume spilled for Class 1, 2, and 3 spills decreased significantly (62.0%) compared with 2007. Of the 2,356 barrels spilled, 2,098 (89.1%) was recovered.

For Class 1, 2, and 3 spills Chemicals reduced their number of spills by 93.0% from 2006 (10 vs. 143) and the refineries showed a 4.2% improvement (361 vs. 377).
