Safety Cultural Survey Madness
Chemicals’ TCC management was interested in conducting a safety culture survey, but also wanted to get good participation in the survey. And so, they created an electronic survey on the Sunoco Intranet and made it available to employees

on March 20, 2008 – the day of the first round games of the 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

All employees completing the six question survey were eligible for prize drawings (done every half-hour), and were provided a catered lunch while they watched the basketball games. As hoped, over 75% of the employees participated and completed the survey (in the world of surveying a 30% response is considered very good).

The survey responses resulted in improvements to safety meeting topics and development of a computer-based learning module for laboratory technicians.
