The Northeast Refining group contracted with a third-party communications firm to conduct communications assessments at its three facilities – the Marcus Hook, Philadelphia, and Eagle Point refineries.
The assessments reviewed both internal and external communications. Management personnel were interviewed along with focus groups consisting of a cross-section of the facility’s employees. External communications were reviewed by conducting a Stakeholder Perception Assessment, which consisted of personal interviews with key leaders in the surrounding community, including education, government, emergency response, religion, business, and environmental advocacy.
The Marcus Hook facility completed its assessment in 2005 and implemented improvement opportunities as appropriate. The Philadelphia Refinery assessment was completed in 2007 and they are currently establishing a gap analysis and implementing improvement suggestions. Lastly, the Eagle Point Refinery assessment was completed in 2006, and they too have reviewed and implemented improvement suggestions as appropriate.
