Honorable Mention The Environmental Federation of Oklahoma presented the Tulsa Refinery’s Remediation Group with an Honorable Mention Award as part of its 2008 Frank Condon Award for Environmental Excellence competition. The Condon Award recognizes companies that demonstrate exceptional initiative and leadership in managing their environmental affairs.
The refinery’s Honorable Mention award was based on its well redevelopment project that is part of its activities aimed at recovering subsurface light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) that had accumulated over the refinery’s 100-plus years of operation. Through chemical treatment and other methods, the wells were cleared of sediment, scale, and iron bacteria thereby increasing the recovery rates. Redeveloping the wells also protects the environment by reducing the need to drill additional wells. |
