Emergency Response Training Emergency response and fire protection are key features of the safety programs at Sunoco’s refineries and chemical plants. Training for response personnel covers a broad range - from using hand-held fire extinguishers, small diameter fire hoses, ongoing training for Emergency Response Teams, all the way to specialized training. The purpose is to have well-prepared response personnel who have the know-how to quickly bring any situation under control without injury and minimizing damage to equipment.
Selected response team members attend specialized training from organizations such as, National Foam Co. (fire-fighting foam) and Ansul (fire extinguishers and dry chemical fire fighting agents). They also may attend special high-rescue schools and the world re-known Texas A&M University (TAMU) fire fighting school in College Station, TX.
The fire school at TAMU involves training with live fires using full-scale mock-ups of refinery process equipment – vessels, towers, loading racks, buildings, etc. The instructors come from all over the oil & gas industry to help students hone their skills. Attendees use classroom and hands-on training to learn the latest techniques for fighting hydrocarbon fires with a goal of gaining knowledge, experience, and teamwork skills. |
