Assessment of Annual HES Report
In November 2006, Sunoco commissioned an outside audit firm, Haley & Aldrich, to review the process for generating Sunoco’s Annual HES Report. The review involved:
  • Interviewing Sunoco participants regarding information flow;
  • Assessing value of each major section of the report to key stakeholders;
  • Developing a list of improvement opportunities; and
  • Conducting an external benchmarking of environmental, health, social, and related corporate sustainability reporting.

The component of the assessment was a gap analysis comparing Sunoco’s 2005 report to the new G3 guidelines.

The assessment team’s report stated, “Our conclusion of Sunoco’s HES reporting process is that it is accurate and consistent. The current reporting process has high level documentation which provides a good understanding of process flow, key dates, data needed, contributors, vendors and some data locations. Sunoco’s use of SIRIS [internal HES data repository] ensures strong data reliability. The process is timely and consistent due to the conscientious approach of the administrator and contributors.”
